HAYES BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT

 HAYES BRAKE PAD REPLACEMENT. Pad Replacement - MX-2, MX-3 MX-4, MX-5, CX-5 Mechanical

Remove old pads:

  1. Remove the wheel.
  2. Using a 2mm Allen wrench, loosen the grub screw on top of the caliper. It is located above the inner pad adjuster. (no need to remove the screw... just loosen)
  3. Using a needle nose pliers, remove the outer pad first.
Note: The outer pad is away from the wheel.
grab the top little prong on the pad and pull inward & upward. It should come out easily.
  4. Repeat the above steps for the inner pad.

         .
  5. Note: The inner and outer brake pads are identical

 To install the new pads:

  1. Loosen the Brake cable from the Brake, and open the brake mechanism/piston completely up.
  2. Using a needle nose pliers, install the inner pad in first.
(Note: The inner pad is the pad closest to the wheel.)
  3. Use the tab in the center of the pad backing plate to push the new pads into place. Angle the pad slightly until the force of the magnet pulls the pad into place.
  4. Now repeat the procedure for the outer pad. The force of the magnet will pull the pad into place.
  5. Install the wheel.
  6. There will be a big gap for the rotor to go in between the new pads.
  7. Adjust the inner pad adjuster to the proper pad gap. (Using a 5mm Allen wrench place through the spokes and slightly turn and watch the inner pad move in/out as you set the desired adjustment.
  8. Once the INSIDE PAD is set with proper gap to the rotor, use a 2mm Allen to tighten grub screw down onto pad adjuster.
  9. Adjust the Brake cable for the desired start position of the outer pad with proper gap to the rotor.
  10. Spin wheel, then pull brake lever to test.and then make fine tuning adjustments.
